What a week! We got off to a really good start right after P Day. We
went to Hna G's house to head over to a lesson. Since she doesn't
have a car and we can't drive her, we walked with her over to a lesson
we had set with the H family. So the H family is the
family from El Salvador that is really cool. So before we had talked
to Manuel and Berta, the parents. Hey both speak English more or less.
They have a 19 year old son that we met once, he doesn't speak any
English. They also have a three year old daughter named Angela. So
they had told us before that their 14 year old son was coming over
here to the US. They didn't really know where he was or anything, just
that he was in "la frontera." So on Monday we go over with Hna G,
and they have a huge smile on their face. He said "we've been praying
as a family like you us taught us that he would make it here safely.
Well, this morning our son got here." They came here to the US when he
was 3, so they hadn't seen their son in 11 years. 11 years! And we
were able to teach them the Restoration on the first day that their
son arrived. We are going to get him going to English classes on
Wednesdays at the church so that he can be ready for school. Well,
their 3 year old daughter loooooooves Hna G, came over, sat on
her lap like she had already known her. It was awesome. So when we
started teaching, it was just Manuel, Berta, Manuel, and Angela. Then,
as we got to the part about the earthly ministry of the Savior and
their 19 year old son came in with his girlfriend, and they just
pulled up chairs and started to listen. It was sweet! They said they
would be baptized if they come to know that this is the true church,
and Manuel the dad said that he felt good when we asked that question.
A good way to start the week. And we were able to pick Juan, Elsa, and
Manuel because we had never taught them before.
So another cool thing. I invited this person on facebook to pray that
we would see a miracle. Well we were walking down the street, and we
contacted this guy with long hair named Filipe. Well last year the
missionaries talked to him, and he said that they were an answer to
his prayers. He was so happy to see us, he showed us his yard and the
cars he is working on, he has three beautiful white German shepards.
He let us come into his house and he just opened up to us about his
whole life. He is super solid. He seemed super stoked to read the
pamphlet we left with him. He already had plans for Sunday, but he'll
be at church next week. He seems super duper excited for the Gospel.
So are we!
Ok now for a crappy but also good experience. So we go visit this guy,
and his friend is over but he didn't even try to talk to us, he was
just chilling on a laptop. so we just were talking to the guy we went
to visit. We shared a scripture from the Book of Mormon, and then his
friend just starts tearing into his, grabs the Bible, and he and I
just start going into it. Like we are bashing hard, he was talking to
us about how he had only been reading the bible for 8 months and the
Spirit had taught all of this to him. And that was when I realized
that he was looking at the laptop before using a scripture. So I ask
to see the laptop, and of course, he was on an anti site. So I called
him out, just like the Spirit hadn't taught him those things, that he
lied to us and didn't understand the bible. Harsh? Yes. But he
deserved it. I invited him to repent and bore my testimony. Well, as
we were leaving we learned that he is a freaking pastor for a church
in Oakland. So I think I handled myself pretty well for bashing with a
preacher. Also that means that he has been reading the Bible for more
than 8 months. Well anyway, we head back and I was just chapped.
CHAPPED. Because I handled the whole thing on my own (well, the spirit
too. You know. But it wasn't like a preaching the gospel 2x2 kind of
thing.). Well the point of the story is that when I got home I had 2
awesome letters waiting for me. One was from Grandpa Bob and it was
super inspiring and I loved it. The other was from a friend in Mexico
that I met through facebook that I helped decide to serve a mission.
So that was a tender mercy of The Lord. He watched out for us and
gives us blessings when we need them.
Tommy Ramone died. However, as the Ramones say, "All good cretins go
to Heaven!" Maybe Arthur Killer Kane is preaching him the Gospel in
the Spirit World (he's the guy from the New York Dolls and the movie
New York Doll). There is an I'm a Mormon video that I posted of one of
the guys from Yo Gabba Gabba. Check it out! It has MC Bat Commander in
civilian clothes as well.
Weeeeelll that's about it. Just working hard. Contacting 20 a day,
teaching lessons everyday. It's been cooling down and there is a good
bay breeze. Love you guys! Have a great week!
